Whether you are a professional trombonist or play the instrument out of passion, it is important that you take care of it regularly and properly. There are two types of cleaning and maintenance of a bass trombone. The first one is regular cleaning and maintenance and the second one is thorough care. The things required for regular and thorough cleaning are not all the same. In this blog post, we will tell you about the materials needed for these two types of bass trombone cleaning and maintenance.
When taking care of your bass trombone regularly, make sure that you have trombone cleaning rod, pieces of cotton cloth, clean water in a spray bottle and paper towels. At first, dismantle the slide. Spray clean water on the slide. Start cleaning the inner slide with the cleaning rod covered with cotton cloth. The cotton cloth covered cleaning rod will ensure that there is no residue left in the corners of the slide.
After cleaning the instrument, remember to keep it inside a bass trombone gig bag. You should also invest in a bass trombone dust bag and use it when required.
Coming to thorough cleaning of bass trombone, you need to have baking soda, detergent and lukewarm water along with all the materials required for regular cleaning.
Sprinkle some amount of detergent on all the tubes. Spray some water and start cleaning the tubes using the cleaning rod covered with cotton cloth. Then, wash the slide under running water (preferably lukewarm water). Make sure that there is no residue of detergent left.
Wipe the instrument with dry cotton cloth. Air-dry it and then, keep it inside the bass trombone gig bag.
Whenever you step out for classes or concerts, carry bass trombone dust bag along with the instrument inside the gig bag.
